Why Won't My Car Start?

Complete silence — battery or electrical

If nothing happens when you turn the key — no clicking, no cranking, no lights — the battery is flat or disconnected. A flat battery can often be jump-started to get you mobile. If the battery is old (over 5 years), replacement is usually needed. We can test the battery and starter motor to rule out charging system faults (alternator) that killed the battery in the first place.

Clicking sound but engine will not turn

Rapid clicking usually means low battery voltage or poor connection. Check the battery terminals for corrosion (white or blue powder around the connections). Clean them or call us — we can clean terminals and test the battery. Single loud click might indicate a stuck starter solenoid or failing starter motor.

Engine cranks but will not fire

If the engine turns over but will not start, the fuel pump, fuel pressure, ignition spark, or air intake might be the culprit. This needs diagnostic testing. We read fault codes and check fuel pressure, ignition timing, and air flow. Once we know the cause, we give you a quote to fix it.

After a long time parked

If your car has sat idle for weeks or months, fuel may have degraded or battery charge dropped. Try jump-starting first. If it starts and runs, the battery probably just discharged. If it still will not catch, the fuel system or spark plugs may need attention.
