Why Is My Car Pulling to One Side?

5 July 2026 · 4 min read

First check — tyre pressure

An underinflated tyre on one side is the most common cause of pulling. Check all four tyre pressures with a gauge — they should match your manufacturer spec (found on the driver door pillar). If one is significantly lower, inflate it and test drive. Pulling should improve or vanish.

Second check — wheel alignment

If tyres are correct but pulling persists, alignment is likely the culprit. Kerbs, potholes, and hard impacts gradually throw out alignment. We check your tracking and can adjust it so the car runs straight.

Third check — brake drag

A sticky caliper on one side can make the car pull during braking. You might notice the steering wheel tugging to one side when you hit the brakes. We inspect the brakes and caliper operation to rule this out.

What we check

We start with a road test to feel where the pull is strongest — under braking, during straight-line driving, or on corners. Then we check tyre pressures and condition, inspect brake components for drag, and recommend alignment if needed. Most pulling issues are inexpensive to fix once identified.
